Elweiss, a short form of the German word Edelweiss, is a flower native to the European Alps. This flower is considered rare due to its short growing season & the high altitude alpine cliffs of which it calls home. There is an old folk tale that says if the flower is given to a loved one, it is a promise of dedication. In homage to this tale, the moniker of “Elweiss” symbolically translates to “Dedicated”.
When combined with the original name of the company “Elweiss Eternum” (this moniker a symbolic & literal translation to “Forever Dedicated”), the slogan gives you the full phrase of, “Forever dedicated to shaping today, (and) soaring tomorrow”. A perfect summary of the company’s perpetual commitment to seeking out sustainable long-term solutions, and the founder’s belief that one should learn & improve from everything they do.
The centerpiece of the logo, an amalgam of a hot air balloon & a globe, is both a reflection of the founders love of aviation, and the company’s aim of progress through ingenuity. The balloon depicting the dawn of human flight, and the globe emanating the dreams that inspired it. The globe’s focus on the African continent, the birthplace of humanity, is meant to be a meditation on the company’s key value of Humanism.
Provoke questions in your audience that are purposeful enough to keep their engagement, without wasting their time with cheap tricks. Embrace captivating moments of intellectual examination that will win hearts & minds, rather than using gaudiness to garner attention.
Give your audience an experience that feels like no detail was left out. If there is an angle that has not been pursued, then pursue it to the nth degree, to ensure they do not walk away feeling empty.
Let there be unified reason behind every choice, without each choice becoming identical to the last.
Do not adopt a new design element for the sake of following a trend or just trying to be “new.” Make sure it serves a purpose & works well in the user’s eye. Timelessness should mean a focus on simplicity, & being conscious of stylistic features that are not benefiting the overall design or the end user.
Elweiss Financial’s initial offerings are tax advisement & tax preparation services for U.S. clientele, ranging from individuals to small businesses. The division’s focus will be on working with up & coming artists, creatives, and entrepreneurs who need personalized financial services that are transparent & affordable, hence the motto, “No matter your walk of life, We’ll walk you through it.”
Visual inspiration for the Financial stylescape (see below) was taken from vintage letters, postcards, stamps, & telegrams, as well as advertisements & movie posters from the early 1900’s.The custom Elweiss stamp in the top right corner is a colorful visual motif that runs throughout the Financial division’s stationary and other branding materials. The hand holding the stamp being a constant reminder of the company’s willingness to help & its responsiveness to client needs. The raised fists in the bottom right embody the division’s goal of empowering those who need it most, and the items they hold being a testament to the artists & creatives that have relied on Elweiss Financial for years.
The initial offerings from Elweiss Entertainment will be voice over & voice acting, supported by the founder’s background in creative writing & spoken word (10yrs), as a VO/VA artist (5 yrs), and as a SLAM poet (2yrs). Recent projects out of the division have run the gamut of commercials, film trailers, & audio books.
The Entertainment stylescape (see below) was directly inspired by the movie poster for “Metropolis”, directed by Fritz Lang, released in 1927. That poster (illustrated by Boris Bilinsky), along with the film itself, were flooded with Art Deco, Bauhaus, Cubist, & Futurist depictions, all of which echo the heydays of Hollywood, and cinema at large. In homage to these roots, Elweiss Entertainment aims to embody the bygone sentimentality of those golden years, while inspiring an optimistic hope for the days yet to come. This reflection is what led to the motto, “Nostalgia for the Past, (and) Faith for the Future.”
“Whatever you do, do it well. Do it so well that when people see you do it, they will want to come back and see you do it again, and they will want to bring others and show them how well you do what you do.”
